John David Tamez

John David Tamez, 27, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at MD Anderson Cancer Center Houston, Texas.  John David was born December 18, 1984 in McAllen, Texas.  John is a 2003 graduate of La Villa High School.  After high school he went on to attend UTPA where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. John said it best, “helping people is one of my main priorities”, which is what steered him to work on his master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling.  All will agree he would have made a great counselor, as he helped so many in his lifetime. While at UTPA he pledged with the Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity, something he was very proud of.  While working on his master’s degree, John went on to become a special education teacher at Lyford Elementary. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Macedonio Tamez and Benicio & Teodora Gonzalez.  John is also preceded in death by his uncles Pablo Gonzalez and Jose B. Gonzalez. He is survived by his beloved girlfriend and caregiver Liza Cantu, and their beloved pet Charlie, his parents Arnoldo A. Tamez and Imelda G. Tamez, his brother & sister-in-law Ray Arnold & Georgina Tamez, his grandmother Guadalupe Tamez, his aunts and uncles Lily Tamez Kehoe, Gilbert (Virginia) Tamez, Roland Tamez, Juan David Tamez, Blanca Gonzalez, Roberto (Angela) Gonzalez, Ofelia Gonzalez, Antonio (Yolanda) Gonzalez, & Jesse (Dahlia) Gonzalez.  John is also survived by numerous cousins and his Phi Kappa Theta Brothers. John (Champ) lived by the Phi Kappa Theta motto “give, expecting nothing thereof”. A remembrance memorial will be held Saturday January 14, 2012 at 5:00p.m. at The Marine Military Academy 926 Marine Drive Harlingen, Texas. The Tamez & Gonzalez families would like to thank Ester Reyes for all her help and support.
