Evan Quinn Gray

Evan Quinn Gray was born to James Edward Gray Jr. and Kristen Ingrid Maurstad Gray on November 18, 1986 in Plano, Texas. Evan was raised in a loving, Christian home. He was the oldest of three children. Evan is survived by his brother, Joel Edward Gray, and his sister, Mari Ingrid Gray. He always was proud of his siblings and there was never a dull moment when they were together.

Evan attended Mary Immaculate Catholic School where he still believed that a “Miracle” was performed to heal his “Boo-Boo!” He then went to Indian Creek Elementary School where he met many of his life-long friends. Evan then ventured to Arbor Creek Middle School, where he learned to play the saxophone. He truly believed he belonged in New Orleans as a jazz musician. Evan really enjoyed his years as an Eagle athlete. He then attended Hebron High School where he was a part of football, bowling club, math club, and the chess team. Evan was very school spirited as he participated in many school pep rallies and loved cheering for the Hawks. His true passion at Hebron was the student council. Evan was a member of Hebron’s 2005 graduating class. While in high school, Evan became a licensed insurance agent and loved his job at Hotchkiss Insurance Company. He then proceeded to Texas Tech University and was a proud Red Raider. Although he did not graduate from Tech, he was always a true Red Raider at heart. His academic interests led him to attend the University of North Texas where he graduated with Cum Laude Honors on August 13, 2010. After graduation, Evan became a manager at La Hacienda Ranch where he truly loved going to work. His co-workers and staff really had a special place in his heart.

Evan was extremely gentle and cared for anyone who crossed his path.  He never met a stranger; helping the homeless or any one in need made his day as much as it made theirs.  Evan was a friend to all, if you met him once he became your friend.  He brought life into every room he entered with his big smile and his enormous sense of humor.

Evan was very passionate and had varied interests. He was a life-long learner. Evan always knew the latest information on sports, fitness, and politics. He was always up to date on anything important. Evan was an avid reader; he was passionate about classic literature. One thing Evan loved was his Ray-Ban sunglasses.

Evan passed away on February 5, 2012 and is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Talma Maurstad; and fraternal great-grandparents, Ray and Tommie Dean. He leaves incredible memories in the hearts and minds of his parents, Eddie and Kristen; brother, Joel; sister, Mari; grandparents, Jim and Joyce Gray and Duane and Betty Maurstad; uncle, Cary Maurstad and his aunt Cyndi; cousins, Sara Maurstad; and Jill Emmons and her husband Greg; great cousins; Kylen and Kambry Emmons. Evan was loved by many and will be missed by all!

John B Jacoy

John Bruno Jacoy, our beloved JB, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 in Garland Texas, surrounded by those who loved him deeply.  He was 81 years old.

John was born on March 26, 1930 to Petrina and John Jacoy in Buffalo, New York.  John joined the army in 1948, which brought him the extreme good fortune of meeting his loving and devoted wife June.  Together they raised five children and created the most vibrant and loving family.

John’s spirit for life was shown in everything he did.  He had many interests and passions.  He spent his career as an electrical engineer for the telephone company.  He was responsible for early innovations in telephone routing technology and was an effective member of the management team.  He was a senior member of the IEEE association of engineers for many years.  He was also an avid ham radio operator, sailor and musician.  Perhaps his most defining characteristic was his love of food.  He enjoyed partaking in the best foods and wines and became quite an accomplished chef as a result of his passion.

John is survived by his wife, June Jacoy, and his five children: June Rocco and spouse Sal, Carol Jacoy, John Jacoy and spouse Pam, Steve Jacoy and spouse Pam, and Jane Jacoy.  John had the pleasure of having eight grandchildren: Jill Jacoy, Dylan Jacoy, Drew Jacoy, Jordan Jacoy, Nate Jacoy, Mitchell Robinson, Jamie Jacoy, and Sam Jacoy.  He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Claire Kempner, Shane Jacoy, Liam Kempner, and Mia Jacoy.

To list the hospitals, organizations, doctors, nurses, and caregivers that have assisted John through his entire health struggles would be difficult.  There are so many that gave willingly and tirelessly to his care, comfort and well-being.  We truly thank those who have been there and helped make his journey a much longer and cherished one.

They say that you should try to sum up a person in three words.  This is not possible with JB for he would need double the words.  So in six words we would say what he most often said to us, “Where are we going to eat?”

Donations may be made in his honor to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4144 North Central Expressway, Suite 750, Dallas, TX 75204 or to the Southwest Transplant Alliance, 5489 Blair Road, Dallas, Texas 75231.

A visitation for John will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27 at Paradigm Funerals, 1611 N. Central Expressway, Plano, TX 75075.

Rayford Worth Lindsey

Rayford Worth Lindsey, 105, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2011. He was born in Throckmorton, Texas in 1906 to James Franklin Lindsey and Zenobia Marlin Lindsey, the third of five children.  In 1934 he married Elizabeth Chisenhall in Corsicana, Texas and they were married for 72 years until her death in 2006.  They are now one in death as in life.
Mr. Lindsey was raised in Throckmorton, Stamford and Anson, Texas (near Abilene) and graduated from Anson High School.  His father, Frank, surveyed, taught school, was a school superintendent and then studied and practiced law, serving as county judge for over 20 years.  His mother, Zenobia, was a homemaker and private music teacher.
Rayford Lindsey began working at the age of 11 running a milk delivery route, sweeping out the bank and shining shoes at the drug store.  In his teens he became an electrician, wiring several courthouses in the Abilene area, and he also developed a passion for automobiles and maintaining automobiles which he was able to do until his late nineties, for himself and neighbors and friends.
Music was always important to the Lindsey family.  With the help of his brothers, Jimmy and John, and on his own, Rayford learned to play clarinet and saxophone.  While still in high school, he played in the Anson City Band and put his musical talent to good use giving music lessons to university students in Abilene.  For fun and sometimes money, he, his brothers and some friends formed "The Jolly Syncopators" band which played gigs in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.  During this same time Rayford studied to be a concert pianist under Miss  Roxy Groves, a student of Artur Schnabel, a famous Austrian classical pianist.  Miss Groves later served as director of music at Baylor University.  While the Great Depression necessitated a change from his plan to be a concert pianist, his piano accompaniment provided drama and suspense for many silent motion pictures and the compensation was helpful in the hard times.
After high school Rayford attended Georgia Tech hoping to be an engineer. His schooling was cut short when the truck in Anson used in his freight business broke down. Although he was not able to meet his own formal educational goals he was able, through the years, to help several members of his family meet theirs.  And he never stopped learning - even acquiring knowledge and insight in the last year of his life.
After returning to Anson, his electrical contracting business was successful but he wished to continue his education and contacted an old personal and family friend, Judge Pope, State Insurance Commissioner, seeking a part-time job in Austin, Texas so he could attend the University of Texas.  Instead of a part-time job, Judge Pope, being aware of Mr. Lindsey's skills and ability, offered him a full-time job as an industrial safety engineer for the Texas Insurance Commission, thus launching his career and allowing him to support his extended family at the height of the Great Depression.
It was during this time that Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey married and, for several years, she traveled with him as he made inspections throughout the country - Texas had interests as far-ranging as Chicago.
As an industrial safety engineer, Rayford inspected defense plants during World War II on loan from the Insurance Commission and when the war ended he joined the insurance industry inspecting manufacturing plants, construction sites, quarries, oil rigs, refineries, lumber mills, and particularly ports, shipyards, offshore oil and gas exploration facilities, and other maritime industries.  His work was in prevention, but he also inspected the scenes of many disasters to determine their causes.
After World War II they lived for a time in Dallas, in 1942 they moved to West University, then in 1945 moved to Foster Place in southeast Houston where they lived for 11years, then back to West University in1956.
Around Christmas in 1945, at the age of 39, Rayford suffered a major cerebral hemorrhage from which he was fortunate to eventually recover.  He continued to work in the insurance industry until his retirement, but, his priorities having been altered immediately after the hemorrhage (he had passed up career advancement which would involve relocating his family), he then  focused upon the needs of his family and the social and spiritual fulfillment available in the churches they attended along their way.
Many of Rayford's pastimes looked a lot like work.  He enjoyed solving problems and repairing things, including his home, automobiles, farm equipment, farm fences, also he was useful if one had an ox in a ditch.  He greatly enjoyed playing Yatze, reading the newspaper, learning things from and about everyone he met, visiting relatives and friends (unexpectedly), long family road trips to many distant states, hosting sunrise breakfasts at the beach and at lakes where the Gordon Reunion was held, the Gordon Reunion (reunion of Elizabeth's family held annually for more 80 years), Halloween carnivals at Foster Place or West University Elementary schools often directed by wife Elizabeth, a sixth-grade teacher (and assistant principal at Foster), overseeing the sponsorship of a Girl Scout troop, raising fine although unregistered Hereford cattle, planning and implementing the planting and harvest of farm crops, taking care of and guiding his immediate and extended family and some neighbors, friends and strangers, and participating at his church.
Rayford Worth Lindsey was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brothers, John, James and W.T. and sister, Zenobia Encke.  He is survived by (1) daughter, Cynthia Salvato and husband, Mark, grandchild, Stephanie Martens and her son, Trapper Cook, as well as step-grandchildren Gina Salvato and John Goff and their children, Julienne and Mark Goff; Michael and Tracey Salvato and their children, Jack and Claire; and Mary Salvato and her daughter, Lauren Ivy.
(2) daughter, Julie Gaylord and husband, Heinz, and grandson Eric Gaylord and granddaughter Amy Beaver and her husband Gordon, her children, Jennifer and Michael Knapp, and Gordon's children, Brendon Beaver and Christine and Chris Hyek and their daughter, Ava (great great grandchild of Rayford). Also surviving are beloved nieces and nephews, including Roland Payne and Carol Jean Payne Gaede who spent their summers with his family after their mother’s death.
Special thanks are sent to Rev. Charlie Hall (retired) and Rev. Carol Bruse for rushing to the hospital to be with Mr. Lindsey and his family during his last hours, and for coordinating and conducting his funeral.  Also thanks to the church's Funeral Ministry.  The family is also appreciative of his night and daytime caregivers, nurses and doctors who have helped him get through his days in relative comfort and health, particularly Ron R. Buescher, M.D.
Visitation and viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday, December 19, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Paradigm Funeral Home, 5455 Dashwood, Bellaire, TX 77401.  On Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at West University Methodist Church, 3611 University Blvd., Houston, TX  77005, 713-664-8111, another viewing will occur at 10:15 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.,  For those wishing to commemorate Rayford Worth Lindsey, memorial gifts may be made to West University United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.

Alfred Charles Greenfield Sr.

Alfred Charles Greenfield Sr., a recent resident of McKinney, Texas, passed on to a better place on Thursday, December 1, 2011. Al was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on June 19, 1942, and was welcomed to this world by his loving parents, Alfred and Margaret, and his sister Peggy. Shortly before his senior year of High School, the family relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia, where he graduated from James Blair High and later attended Randolph-Macon College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology.

While attending college, he was known to easily make friends, some of whom introduced Al to his devoted wife of the next 47 years, Susan Redford. They were married on August 8, 1964 and lived in Susan’s hometown of Richmond, Virginia for forty years. A few years after marriage, their first child, Jennifer Christine was born, followed closely by Alfred Charles Jr. and Jonathan Martin. Over his life, he has filled many roles, including construction company owner, corporate manager, and team leader. He has been a father figure to many, including those who may not have had one, or those who may have needed one at the time. He was affectionately known as “Abuelo” (grandfather) by his team and thought of Encore Restaurants/Sonic as his second family.

Al is remembered fondly for his quick wit and banter, his passion for cookies and laughter, and his warm and welcoming smile, humor, and demeanor. He touched the lives of many people, with so many having nothing but wonderful ways to describe the man who lifted spirits and brightened days wherever he went. A lifelong Redskins fan, Al enjoyed John Wayne movies, old westerns, and watching Warner Bros. cartoons with his children and later, his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan, who will always miss his warmth and tenderness. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Arthur and her family; his daughter Jennifer and her husband Michael Tsou, son Alfred Jr. and his wife Melissa, son Jonathan; and his grandchildren Heather, Ashley, Katelyn, Abigail,  Bryan, Alfred III (Trey), Mattison, and Kendall.

Chock. An opportunity will be made available following the services for friends to speak with the family. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests memorial contributions in Al’s name to the American Heart Association.
